Along the banks of the Susquehanna River in historic Washington Boro, Pennsylvania, the Stehman-Wertz Mansion still stands as a reminder of the ambition, craftsmanship, and enduring spirit of small-town America. Built in 1814 by Joseph Stehman and later home to the Wertz family for generations, the house remains a lasting symbol of place, memory, and the pride people take in building something meant to last.
It is from this legacy that Stehman House takes its name and its heart.
From the beginning, Stehman House candles were created to reflect that same spirit—hand-poured in small batches, inspired by lore and legend, and made to bring warmth, character, and memory into the home. Now carried forward in York County, Pennsylvania, the brand continues under the care of Alan, a lifelong maker whose story is rooted in craftsmanship, authenticity, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Raised in small-town southeast Kansas and shaped by a lifetime of building, fixing, engineering, and creating with his hands, Alan brings to Stehman House a practical respect for quality and a belief that well-made things matter. He is, in his own way, a simple guy—someone who values honest work, good tools, and the kind of everyday experiences that make life feel full.

While the brand remains rooted in the story of its namesake home and its Pennsylvania heritage, it also carries forward through Alan’s stewardship with renewed care and purpose.
